13th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE «TERRORISM AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA»

26 – 29 September 2017, Bulgaria

The International academy of television and radio (IATR) holds the 13th International conference on terrorism and electronic Media on 26 – 29 of September 2017 in Sofia (Bulgaria). The conference is supported by the Federal agency for press and communications of the Russian Federation.

The main purpose of the conference is to draw attention of national media and state and nongovernmental organizations to problems of countering terrorism through electronic media.

The conference will be opened by Leonid Mlechin, the сhairman of IATR board, director of the Department of feature programs of Public Television of Russia and Vladimir Kozlov, deputy head of the Russian federal agency for press and mass communications. It is expected that Krasimir Karakachanov, Vice Prime minister of Bulgaria and Minister of defense will address the conference.

The conference will be attended by Stjepan Mesic, President of Croatia 2000-2010; Dorit Golender, former ambassador of Israel to Russia in 2010 – 2015, Vice President of Genesis foundation; Sotir Tsatsarov, Chief Prosecutor of Bulgaria; Elena Yoncheva, Deputy of the National Assembly of Bulgaria; Toma Tomov, Deputy of Bulgaria; Rumen Petkov, Chairman of the General Assembly, International Institute for Security and Cooperation; Veroljub Arsic, head of the delegation of the Parliament of SerbiaDeputy Chairman, Parliament of Serbia; Galina Sidorova, co-founder of the Association of Investigative Journalists; Yury Kobaladze, deputy dean of the Faculty of international journalism, MGIMO University (Ruusia). The conference will be attended also by representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs of Russia, China, Iran and Serbia, representatives of public and journalistic organizations of Bulgaria.

This year the number of conference participants is significantly expanded and this makes the conference more interesting and significant.

The conference will be attended by representatives of Russian and international electronic media, diplomatic missions, representatives of security agencies. The conference will be also attended by 80 Russian and foreign leading media journalists and national experts from more than 20 countries and  representatives of international organizations UN, OSCE, UNESCO and CSTO.

The conference will discuss:

  • The role of media in covering terrorist attacks in Europe, the Middle East and the war in Syria;
  • Prevention of terrorism in the info space and a voluntary rules of conduct for the electronic media;
  • Civil societies and electronic media: how to resist the heroization of terror and terrorist;
  • Cyberterrorism and information wars: a new large-scale threat to national and international security.

 The program of the conference includes plenary sessions,  round tables, screenings of documentaries and television programs.

Official languages of the conference are English and Russian.

The conference will open on September 27th at 10.00 in the conference hall of the Marinela Hotel (1407 Sofia, 100 James Bourchier Boulevard).
